Follow-up Observations of SPY White Dwarf + M-Dwarf Binaries
We present the results of follow-up observations of white-dwarf + M-dwarf binaries identified using spectra obtained as part of the SPY survey. Spectra of the Hα region were obtained with the SPIRAL spectrograph on the AAT telescope. Of the eleven stars observed, seven are binaries with periods in the range 2.8 hours to 7.7 days. We also show that one of our targets, WD 0137−349, has a brown dw...
متن کاملClose-up of primary and secondary asteroseismic CoRoT targets and the ground-based follow-up observations
To optimise the science results of the asteroseismic part of the CoRoT satellite mission a complementary simultaneous ground-based observational campaign is organised for selected CoRoT targets. The observations include both high-resolution spectroscopic and multicolour photometric data. We present the preliminary results of the analysis of the ground-based observations of three targets. A line...
متن کاملJ - GEM Follow - Up Observations of The Gravitational Wave Source GW 151226 1
We report the results of optical–infrared follow-up observations of the gravitational wave (GW) event GW151226 detected by the Advanced LIGO in the framework of J-GEM (Japanese collaboration for Gravitational wave ElectroMagnetic follow-up). We performed wide-field optical imaging surveys with Kiso Wide Field Camera (KWFC), Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC), and MOAcam3. The KWFC survey started at 2.26 d...
متن کاملThe Nature of Dwarf Nova Outbursts
We show that if the dwarf-nova disc instability model includes the effects of heating by stream impact and tidal torque dissipation in the outer disc, the calculated properties of dwarf-nova outbursts change considerably, and several notorious deficiencies of this model are repaired. In particular: (1) outside-in outbursts occur for mass transfer rates lower than in the standard model as requir...
